How much power does a NAS use?
A modern 2- to 4-bay NAS idles around 15–30 watts with drives spinning, and drives spend most of their life idle. Add roughly 5 watts per spinning drive under load. That idle number is the one that matters, because it runs 24/7 — at $0.16/kWh, 25 watts is about $35 a year. Our configurator prints total idle-watts and the annual cost for any build.
